The workshop was held by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), FIERGS, Senai-RS and ABDI, together with Ufrgs. Later this year, two more events of this type are planned, in Santa Catarina and Goiás. "We want participants able to view nanotechnology as a possibility for generating new business and making companies more competitive," said CNI policy and industry analyst Cristiano Silva.

Successful cases using application of nanotechnology were also presented at the workshop. Dublauto Gaúcha, which operates in the manufacture of shoe components, had its debut in nanotechnology marked by the introduction of silver nanoparticles in fabrics for shoe insoles, creating a product that inhibits odor. “After learning about nanotechnology, we saw that innovation was a totally viable path”, says the industrial director of the industry, Evandro Wolfart. Since 2006, the industry has participated in eight innovation calls for tendencies with nanotechnology projects.The experience was so positive that the Dublauto group is applying the technology in a new brand, Phycea, which will operate in natural beauty and health products, such as masks made from algae and polysaccharides.
